James is a former research assistant with the Indiana Clean Lakes Program (Summer 2016). In addition to performing field sampling, he assisted on the auto-analyzer work for sample nutrient content. James worked as a Hydrologic Technician and Crew Leader for the U.S. Forest Service in Salmon, Idaho in Summer 2017. James graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2012 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Russian Studies. James is currently pursuing an M.S.E.S. at Indiana University with a focus on Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, and Risk Assessment. Following graduation in December 2017, James intends to pursue work on remediation of metals contamination in rivers and streams. In his free time, James enjoys whitewater kayaking, rafting, hiking, camping, and cooking.

Karina is a crew-member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program. In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, she also does phytoplankton taxonomy identification and enumeration, and is the field logistics coordinator for all field sampling for the CLP. Karina received her B.S. in both Environmental Science and Spanish from Indiana University in 2015 and is currently pursuing her M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. in Applied Ecology from Indiana University with an expected graduation date of December 2017. In her free time, she volunteers with the Wonderlab Children’s museum as a visitor services assistant. Karina enjoys hiking, reading and regularly visiting the many great coffee shops Bloomington has to offer.

Gabrielle is a former crew member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program for the summer of 2016. In addition to performing lab and field analyses, she assisted with the lab's data entry and sample tracking during the field season. Gabrielle was also a teacher's assistant for IU's E556 Limnology course during her final semester and enjoyed exposing students to the world of lakes and streams. After graduating,  she now works as a municipal NPDES permit writer for the Indiana Department of Environment Management. In free time, Gabrielle enjoys exploring the outdoors, traveling and testing out new vegan recipes.

Kelsey is a former crew member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program.  In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, she prepares lake reports for various clients in the immediate vicinity. Kelsey graduated from Transylvania University in 2013 with a B.A. in Environmental Science and Mathematics. She is currently pursuing her M.P.A. and M.S.E.S in Water Management at Indiana University with an expected graduation date of December 2017. Prior to coming to Indiana University, Kelsey worked as an environmental engineering technician. Kelsey enjoys cooking, gardening, running, biking, and scuba diving in her free time. She is also training to obtain her private pilot’s license.

Thomas is a former crew-member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program. He operated the Limnology laboratory's auto-analyzer in addition to other field and laboratory analyses. Thomas also works in Adam Ward's hydrology lab where he studies solute transport modeling in streams. Thomas graduated from DePauw University in 2016 with a B.A. in Physics and is currently pursuing an M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. focusing in Water Management at Indiana University with an expected graduation date of December 2018. When not in one lab or the other, Thomas spends his free time reading about urban design, playing board games and/or canoe camping.

Rowan is a crew member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program. In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, he is responsible for running and maintaining the laboratory’s autoanalyzer machine, which processes many of the nutrient samples collected in the field. Rowan graduated from Indiana University in 2017 with a B.S. in Environmental Science and is currently pursuing his M.S.E.S. with a focus in applied ecology. He expects to graduate in 2018. Rowan enjoys biking, camping, playing pool and live music.

Courtney is a former crew member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program where she performed field and laboratory analyses for lake water samples. She received her M.S.E.S. from Indiana University in 2017 where her curriculum focused in water resources and applied ecology. In her free time, Courtney enjoys bird watching and hiking.

Program Coordinator, R.A.I.N. Initiative

B.S. Environmental Management, Indiana University, 2015 M.P.A / M.S.E.S Water Management, Indiana University, 2017 Elizabeth is the Program Coordinator for the R.A.I.N. Initiative. She has worked as a RainReady Intern for the Center for Neighborhood Technology’s RainReady initiative, which helps individuals, businesses and communities in the City of Chicago find solutions to the problem of inland flooding. Elizabeth graduated from Indiana University in 2015 with a B.S. in Environmental Management and is expected to earn her M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. in Water Management from Indiana University in December 2017. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys rock climbing, yoga, hiking and finding cute dogs to hang out with.

Bruna is a crew-member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program.  In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, she coordinates citizen scientists through the CLP volunteer monitoring program. Bruna graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 2013 with a B.A. in Biology. She is currently pursuing her M.P.A and M.S.E.S., concentrating in policy analysis and water resources, at Indiana University with an expected graduation date of December 2017. In her free time, Bruna enjoys swimming, cliff-diving, going to concerts, and trying out new coffee blends.

Joao is a crew-member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program. In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, he coordinates the logistics involved with the 2017 National Lake Assessment survey. Joao is passionate about water policies, water management, and water security. Joao graduated from Universidad Estatal a Distancia de Costa Rica in 2014 with a B.S. in Natural Resource Management and is currently pursuing an M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. focusing in Water Resource Management at Indiana University with an expected graduation date of December 2017. In his free time, Joao enjoys hiking, kayaking and reading.

Olivia Reda is a former crew member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program for the summer of 2016.  In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, she assisted with glassware maintenance and weekly sampling trip preparations.  Olivia also served as an outdoor trip leader at Indiana University Outdoor Adventures, where she led many whitewater rafting trips. She graduated from Indiana University in 2016 with a B.S. in Environmental Science. After graduating, Olivia recently completed an invasive plant management internship with Catalina Island Conservancy in California and is now looking to gain more experience before pursuing a graduate degree.  In her free time, she enjoys dancing, hiking, and spending time at Indiana Dunes.

Lauren is the former Secchi Dip-In Program Coordinator for the North American Lake Management Society. She took over the water quality citizen science program after eminent limnologist Dr. Bob Carlson retired from Kent State University. Lauren graduated from University of New Mexico in 2013 with a B.S. in Environmental Science and is currently pursuing her M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. in Water Management at Indiana University with an expected graduation date of May 2018. Lauren plans to work in the public sector on Western water issues following graduation, and since her time in the Laney laboratory she has worked for the Grand Canyon National Park, US Fish and Wildlife Bloomington Field Office, and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. In her free time, Lauren enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, yoga, and cycling.

Vanessa was Secchi Dip-In (SDI) Program Coordination Intern for the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) from April 2016 through August 2017. In her primary role for SDI program, Vanessa managed communications with individual volunteers & directors of volunteer monitoring programs, created outreach materials, coordinated a partnership with GLEON's Lake Observer mobile application, completed QA/QC measures on the program's MS Access database, and submitted SDI database entries (via WQX) to the EPA's STORET data warehouse & produced a corresponding guide for future interns. Additionally, Vanessa published several public-interest articles (Indiana Clean Lakes Program's Fall 2016 Water Column, Vol. 28, No. 3; NALMS Notes, April 2017; NALMS's Summer 2017 LakeLine Magazine, Volume 37, No. 2) and prepared a detailed operations manual for the SDI Program. Vanessa graduated from Illinois Weslayan University in 2011 with a B.A. in Biology and is currently pursing an M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. focusing in Water Management at Indiana University with an expected graduation date of December 2017. In her free time, Vanessa enjoys expanding her knowledge of plants, backpacking, swimming, kayaking, and traveling.

Daniel is a former crew-member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program. In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, he helped to coordinate the logistics of field sampling trips. While studying at SPEA, Daniel also worked for the Hoosier National Forest in a Service Corps placement, and as a Graduate Assistant for an Aquatic Chemistry class. After graduating, Daniel now works in the Planning department of the Portland Bureau of Transportation in Portland, Oregon. In his free time, Daniel enjoys skiing, mountaineering, and canoeing.

Leigh is a former crew-member of the Indiana Clean Lakes Program.  In addition to performing field and laboratory analyses, she also served as an assistant Volunteer Coordinator. Leigh graduated from Indiana University in 2017 with an M.S.E.S. in Water Resources. She now works for the North Carolina Division of Water Resources as an Algal Ecologist.  In her free time, Leigh enjoys refinishing furniture, hiking, swimming, and climbing trees.

Jason graduated from Indiana University with an M.S. in Environmental Science focusing in Water Resources in 2016. After graduation, Jason now works for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Water. In his free time, Jason enjoys hiking, running, and kayaking.
