Vanessa was Secchi Dip-In (SDI) Program Coordination Intern for the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) from April 2016 through August 2017. In her primary role for SDI program, Vanessa managed communications with individual volunteers & directors of volunteer monitoring programs, created outreach materials, coordinated a partnership with GLEON's Lake Observer mobile application, completed QA/QC measures on the program's MS Access database, and submitted SDI database entries (via WQX) to the EPA's STORET data warehouse & produced a corresponding guide for future interns. Additionally, Vanessa published several public-interest articles (Indiana Clean Lakes Program's Fall 2016 Water Column, Vol. 28, No. 3; NALMS Notes, April 2017; NALMS's Summer 2017 LakeLine Magazine, Volume 37, No. 2) and prepared a detailed operations manual for the SDI Program. Vanessa graduated from Illinois Weslayan University in 2011 with a B.A. in Biology and from Indiana University in 2017 with a M.P.A. and M.S.E.S. focusing in Water Management. In her free time, Vanessa enjoys expanding her knowledge of plants, backpacking, swimming, kayaking, and traveling.
