Griffy Lake

Griffy Lake, built in 1924, provides a back-up drinking water supply for the city of Bloomington, IN. In 2012, repairs to the dam at Griffy Lake required a whole-lake drawdown.  Drawdown is often selected as a lake management option to control aquatic invasive plants; however, a whole lake drawdown is rarely necessary.  The drawdown provides an exceptional opportunity to study the full impacts of a whole-lake drawdown. The goal of our study is to contribute to the knowledge base on drawdown efficacy, nutrient budgets, primary productivity state, aquatic invasive species, and potentially toxin-producing algae in order to uncover the full magnitude of this management option.
